Garbage Monster
Sometimes I wonder why it is,
I'm such a lazy lout,
And why it is I am so loathe,
To take the garbage out.
I knew someday I would regret,
Not tending to this chore.
It's just so easy to forget,
What hides behind the door.
I always find just one more thing,
I think the can should hold.
But smell alone should tell my nose,
I'm growing rot and mold.
Yet as I put the lid down tight,
And turn to walk away,
I know it's time to take it out,
But what is one more day?
So there it sits to wait for me,
To ripen and to rot.
Tomorrow I will put it out,
If I like it or not.
Tomorrow is a busy day,
That goes by way too fast.
I add more garbage to the can,
Sure it will be the last.
Another day goes flying by,
The can I still ignore.
I know that soon the lid won't fit,
If I don't do this chore.
That night as I lay in my bed,
I heard a mighty sound.
I jumped up to investigate,
And this is what I found.
My garbage can had blown apart,
Gone was the cupboard door.
A kind of greenish yellow light,
Oozed out across the floor.
Then from this putrid slime arose,
The form of something live.
So frightening and so terrible,
It seemed to dip and dive.
One moment to the ceiling tall,
The next down to the floor.
It formed a face so hideous,
Like none I've seen before.
My mind was yelling, “Move you fool,
While you are still alive.
For in the presence of this beast,
No one could long survive.”
I tried to move. I tried to scream,
Such fear I'll not forget.
My feet seemed glued tight to the floor,
Like in cement were set,
As closer did the beast draw near,
There rose a putrid smell.
A stench which only death can know,
Straight from the bowls of hell.
With blazing eyes and fiery breath,
I heard it speak my name.
It's voice was just a vicious hiss,
As nearer still it came.
It said, “What you are seeing now,
Is what was meant to be.
A product of your laziness,
For you created me.
Now I am just a tiny bit,
Of all you do not want,
Since now I have been given life,
It's you I'm going to haunt.”
I heard a scream which seemed to come,
From miles and miles away.
The last scream of a dying man,
Before the light of day.
I opened up my eyes and saw,
The clock beside my bed.
My body lay there drenched in sweat,
A pounding in my head.
Thank God that it was just a dream,
Relief caused me to shout.
“Don't worry I am coming now,
To take the garbage out!”
