Bleed The Life

Contributed by puppy_dog_eyes on Friday, 6th March 2015 @ 02:20:59 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Entertain me, box of neon magic
Draw me once more into your twisted web
I am puppet to the master, rat to the piper
Whatever you serve today, I will feast upon

You collect my minutes, harvest hours weeks and days
Wash my eyes in images, swill creative down the drain
Household shrine we worship you, disciples gathered in
God is 24/7. we sit and honour him

Life is a casualty, eated by welcomed disease
Thoughts abducted, molested by a monster
We browse the lives of others, while it gorges on ours
Grazing on random nothingness, consumed by painted screen

Hail this social power, who speaks in many tones
Tethers all to its empty soul, grinds the will to dust
Drip fed dreams cull conversations, choke the active mind
We give our whole to our diety and let it bleed the life.

Well scripted, barbed and honest. It's the reality of all screens, but TV seems to be the best soporific medium. I turned off the boob tube the other night and got a heap of things done, all with a clearer head and a sharper mind. Don't think I will be going cold turkey, though.

Clever, well-constructed poem. It really is an enormously powerful and brainwashing medium. You have a grand, poetic lesson here to remind us all.

You definitely make a strong statement why we should avoid the "idiot box" and I also love the sarcasm behind your lines.

People let it, so it will be so. I'm glad I can't sit still long enough to let it happen but I will admit I do have a few favorite TV programs I do like to watch.

There was one, Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles that I actually think was quite poetic in the writing and may have inspired me to write. I think her narrations were awesome. So, I suppose it's not all bad.

Thank you for a very enjoyable read.

Tim

It could be worse ... A la 1984. The 'household shrine' spying on our every private moment...Oh wait...Isn't that already happening?
Conspiracy theorists rejoice! One of many drugs given away freely and haphazardly in the beginning...With the same empty promise of great things to come.

I love this write. So many great lines. A few that grabbed me:

Wash my eyes in images, swill creative down the drain.

Life is a casualty, eated by welcomed disease (!)

Tethers all to its empty soul, grinds the will to dust.

We interrupt this program to announce an important message from puppy_dog_eyes. ;)

Thanks for sharing!
