Diagnose Apathy

Contributed by kmec1990 on Thursday, 26th February 2015 @ 01:49:56 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

My apathetic doctor frowned slightly as he said
take this little pill, it will take the edge.
It won't cure what ails you, but you'll no longer care
all I want to do is get you out of here.
Your ten minute time slot we truly have consumed
I have many other patients just as sick as you.
You can book a new appointment, if you require more advice,
But I really need to hurry, so for now this must suffice.
Then he seemed to pause, looking suddenly quite pleased,
as if he was quite brilliant, with a new thought to appease.
Let's run another test to see what we can find,
I'm sure there will be something if we poke you in the spine.
Already silently seething, I longed to fling my purse,
Or wrap that pressure cuff snugly round his girth.
Too bad I don't believe you, for much misery I've endured
in your game of diagnose, what a pile of manure.
I don't deserve your ire, nor your patent disregard
of all the pain and suffering
you dish out NO-HOLDS-BARRED!
Inside my head I'm screaming, please stop and just SEE me,
for I'm more than the mere pay check...
you collect from ALL your fees!

Nice poem. It is to the point of how the doctors feed off people to have such lavish lives and don't really care about the people they see.
Thanks for sharing this write.

Damn. Quite impressive. I like the flowing, language, message, and... Hell, I'd say like just about everything there is to this poem.
That's the shame of this society in which we live. A system run by money, and even the healthcare system can't escape. Greed fuels the hospital, treating symptoms not disease.
While the doctors prescribe, the current annual model of medicine. It's really such a shame.

Really enjoyed the style, flow and content. I like have-a-go poems. It's a bit different here. Financially, doctors ain't getting rich on National Health Service wages, and twelve-hour-plus shifts don't help their enthusiasm. I tend to go in, sit down, diagnose myself, and tell them which drugs I need. They don't like it, but it is my body, and I know it better than anyone else.

wrap that pressure cuff snugly round his girth. lol...Nice!

Well, truly a fine piece you have here. If it's based on a true story, then I'm with Nessa, time to find a different doc.

True or fiction, either way, a very good poem.

Thank you for an enjoyable read.

Tim
