As nightime turns to dawn
They seem to multiply like sickly spawn
No tweets today but maybe tomorrow
As they marinate in their self made sorrow
The good the bad it's all a mixture
Of fakes and phonies with stolen pictures
He attracts the lonely depressed neurotics
But doesn't he make them feel erotic
All on the outside just lookin in
And everyone want's a piece of him
Wanting romance to blossom
Wishing he was touching their swelling bosom
This man made machine
So intense and self driven
Is a celebrity who hunts ghosts for a living
They are trapped and delirious with infatuation
Of this dark and gloomy manifestation
He's drawn to the dark side and written books
And they are captivated by his stunning looks
Celebrity is happy to be single and free
He can eat the fruits from the forbidden tree
A man who cashed in on exploitation
And he can play his fans with manipulation
Don't be fooled by this man of steel
With eyes that are dark and cold
All that glitters ain't always gold.

Two things this made me think of.
The first I was under the impression of the celebrity being followed by papparazi, so I to a very lesser extent related to it. I'm not followed, stalked, or rather pursued, but it seems like everyone who's greatly interested in me, is not of my interest, yet those who are, aren't always fond of me.
Second it made me think of the song "Don't Stop" by Innerpartysystem. These lines specifically.
"The road I walk is paved in gold
To glorify my platinum soul
Selfishness runs through my veins
I gave up everything for fame!
I am the closest thing to God
So worship me, don't ever stop
I am the lie that you adore
I feed the rich, and [expletive] the poor!
I got what you want
And just don't stop...
This is entertainment!
LIES are entertaining!"
It's a great poem. It's one thing to appreciate an individual for their works, but ridiculous entirely to swoon over them like a girl at a Beatles concert on tv.
Maria Bamford mentioned something similar in her standup.
"I do worship celebrities because their moods can influence weather. But since the past, the strongest and most fertile kept the species going, so I look to Jennifer Aniston for the news. She's a strong and sexy monkey, and she's going to tell the rest of us, where the bananas are located."
Despite my numerous tangent thoughts, as I said, great poem. It implies greatly of an open-mind. One you should treasure. :) |
