Eulogy

Here lies a troubled soul-
Full of tiny incisions,
Made from bad decisions
Purging of the truth extolled
Where hope floats like a rock.
With a crushing precision,
In sniper position,
Watching closely like a hawk-
Beaked enthusiasm,
Gouged madness in fleshy bits
Nothing left, but the pits,
Sacred cannibalism
Negativity perched-
In some gutter looking up
With fork, knife, plate, and cup
Every cavity is searched
Something brazen is unearthed,
A fighting spirit kicks
While the eleventh hour ticks,
A survivor- rebirthed.

Get in there! You were never that far lost, trust me. Such vibrancy of spirit is never lost......only found, regardless of the search. |

I really like the wording and imagery. Nicely done. :)
And in the end the trampled spirit, refuses to be trodden on any longer, similar to the Pheonix at the end? |

The more I read this the more I could not resist the urge to insert this emote --->
Sacred cannibalism !!!? Every cavity is searched???!!
Holy Gotham City, Master Bruce!!! That put some yeeesh images in my ol' brain.
Gouged madness in fleshy bits. Did you just get finished watching some kind of graphic horror movie and then decide to write this?
Seriously there are some wickedly awesome images here. And that Scorpitude!!! I simply love this poem!!! The resolve at the end made me have a happy face!!!!
Kepp on rockin' in the free world, Scorpendous. |

Hi Scorp.
Very strong opening. Reminded me of the Chinese 'death of a thousand cuts'. We homo sapien sapien's do that to ourselves with disturbing frequency.
I like the personification of 'negativity'.
Well done here.

i like this poem. i like the formula you used, and used to great effect. the obstacles presented by adherence to structure and theme is so often over-looked, and rarely acknowledged.
also....thirty seconds before reading your poem, i submitted a new(ish) one that also has the word brazen lazing about...
so now you know.

My favorite line is the 4th line "purging of the truth extolled". It makes me think of a person who rids themselves of truthful praise, in order to humble themselves, or perhaps because it feels undeserved. I think that was a very clever and well thought out line. I love how this is clearly a poem about survival, yet has a darker undertone. I found it quite inspirational. Well done. |
