killed a hobo with his car:
the body’s still off Highway 9
if someone went and took the time
Paddy O, loyal to this day
use to be in the IRA:
murdered the guilty and innocent
doesn’t quite know what it meant
blood among us.
Sarah B, mother of five
only three now left alive:
it’s not her fault when they die
‘cause babies always cry and cry
Ombaku A, refugee
only wanted to be free:
yet slaughtered with his machete
his hated rival ethnicity
blood among us.
your friends and family
used to kill, some in war
or just the thrill:
perhaps in order to survive
they never felt so alive.
peaceful now, but
in their time,
beasts of the greatest crime
blood among us.

| Yes, this does get under the skin. I done something that I can't recall doing before: I read this poem aloud. And when I got to 'blood among us' I instinctively read it slowly and emphatically. Grand job here, Spike. |
