How we love rumors, what “she” did to “he”;
If you know some dirt my dear, come sit by me!
Spare me the wholesome! Regale me with lies!
Shock me to numbness! Bring tears to my eyes!
Speech makers bore me; but oh, for the tipster;
Who stands in the shadows and speaks in a whisper!
I’m drawn like a magnet by shoot outs and crashes;
Follow that car! Head ‘em off at the passes!
A pie in the face makes us all laugh like hell sir!
Better to give than to get-- with the seltzer!
Hence fascination with slapstick and pratfalls;
Mooning, and whistles, and blue-collar catcalls!
Soap operas let us compare and defer!
We’re unbrazen, hussy-less, nothing like “her”!
Cheering the poor sap who always gets taken,
(While sponsors adore that we’d never forsake him!)
We slow to a crawl passing ambulance lights;
For a glimpse of catastrophe bestows the right;
To pat ourselves soundly, reminding our kin;
That our skill and alertness has saved them (again)!
Relationships speak to our contrary courses;
(Excitement and wedlock are opposite forces!)
We marry the “good girl”; yet flash a wide grin;
For the lady who bears a resemblance to sin!
Ladies the opposite, take bad boys first;
(“good guys”, like scotch, are a slow-acquired thirst)
Those lounge lizard, bar-hoppers, dripping in gold;
Bring simmer to boil and make women bold!
Who yearns to wallow in faceless society?
Swaddled in virtue and bridled sobriety!
Pronounce me as pure as the snow-- and I’m taken;
To finding a way to prove you mistaken!
Sure, cheaters and liars get caught in the end;
No thanks to our heroes, most find themselves penned;
To live on the royalties, book deals, and scandals;
(Sipping champagne in Caribbean sandals!)
Excitement attracts me-- it’s life’s recreation!
Rescue me please from this “wise moderation!”
Oh, to drive race cars and keep me a lover!
Join the French Legion! Go deep undercover!
Helping me fantasize such a grand life:
Into the kitchen comes one tiny wife;
Reminding me softly as I dream wild wishes—
That no man was ever shot while washing dishes.

Actually, ol' Ben Seiple, Ada Seiple's uncle was shot while doing the dishes. ;-) Actually, I have no idea.
I loved this poem. So witty and enjoyable, twists and turns. Even though I see the humor, I believe a lot of it (if not all) to be true about people. True but laughable. I have witnessed many a girl/woman going for the bad guys.
Thank you for posting.

I've come to regard you as the "Queen of Wit" on this (my only poetry) site. I love your style...I can always count on deft turns and nimble leaps.
Well done.
