Yellow Warblers Sing

In this age, be young or old
('tis true some things don't change);
streams still burble, sunlight dances,
greens so green remain;
water pools, sweet and cool,
to ever flow 'neath craggy ledge;
We sing to and of ourselves,
spirit pure unto end;
and each of us, deep within,
enjoy private coves of grass for one,
where our heart, our life, our memories,
are mere leaves fallen, things we've done.
In this age warblers sing, (are you one?),
yellow breasted, vigilant still?
Of vibrant life o’er placid pond,
does music ring within in joyous silent trill?
They, Yellow Warblers, yes, (and us) convey to spring,
through chirp or song, we all belong,
we all have our right to sing;
eye to motion, winged release,
springing branches loosed on cracking creak,
warblers flit from where they sit,
just as easy as you please.
In summer rain, a meal to gain,
to wing, to swing, sweep low;
taking meals of insects sweet,
to placid or to slow-
We need to live and love and bang life's gong-
only then our hearts accept we'll move beyond;
at some point we go where we belong,
to those waiting in eager glorious throng,
with love to hear (and us to sing) our lovely living song.

Very Nice. I'm thinking, as I got closer to the end, that it has more meaning than simply the yellow warbler.
Thank you for an enjoyable read.

So we must stay the same age when we are around these things. I love the perspective here.
Best,

How beautifully your portray the inner riches of the soul's experience. The treasure of time within us.
This work is so visual "springing branches loosed on cracking creak" that I can see the branches and the story you tell is in motion! I am in awe. This is stunning in complicated simplicity.
A word of art.

I've had an affinity with birds since I was a boy, and your title grabbed me straight away. And I might say, the poem never let me go. Yes, I'm a yellow warbler, and, after reading this beautiful piece, I'm gonna make sure I remember to grab it while I can, and bang life's gong loudly and proudly! Topnotch. |
