Love Is

Contributed by kmec1990 on Thursday, 22nd January 2015 @ 08:56:03 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Love is not the fairytale
people write about,
folks get so disappointed
when things just don't work out.
We are only human
mistakes are often made,
instead of working through them
we simply walk away.
The online definition
equates it to great sex
it does not speak of romance,
respect or willingness.
To surrender to a feeling
that someone else comes first,
to look beneath the makeup
and see them at their worst.
It's true that lustful feeling
fades a bit with time
and passion cools to comfortable
to say otherwise is to lie.
But that stable feeling
creates a safety net,
to keep us safe from chaos
when we begin to fret.
The one you hold within your hand
is worth their weight in gold,
the one that waits out in the bush
won't be there when you're old.

Awesome poem :-)

and I totally agree with you. True love isn't about the greatest sex and butterflies in the stomach and so on.
It's about sacrifice and acceptance. Loving someone for who they are, warts and all :-)
Knowing that person has your back no matter what.
People just don't get that, do they?

Love,
Davinah

Packed full of truth and you kept an impressive flow. Real love can be hard to define, as it is not ruled by logic. You have done an exceptional job of giving us a glimpse of what it entails.

Well done.

Ah we all seem to go trough these motions, so invigorating and compelling at times. The draw us closer from time to time, but they can only spark something that love alone can keep going...and love is not something one can posess it simply is...

Rather than exposing a myth, you have eloquently revealed what a loving and lasting relationship is all about. So many dive hedonistically into relationships, that is the power of the initial passion. But when a touch of altruism is required, it all gets a bit staid, and they are off like scalded cats. I guess those that last, deserve their longevity. Thanks, great post.
