Naked Truth

Contributed by kmec1990 on Thursday, 22nd January 2015 @ 07:18:57 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

Held captive by an illness
and all that may betide
causes me to question
who I am inside.

Looking in the mirror
she looks back at me
peeling back my layers
to what really lies beneath.

A complete exfoliation
an X-ray of my soul
reveals I'm not as righteous
as others have been told.

A mishmash of bad choices
wrong turns and selfishness
the greater good discarded
for egotistical cowardess.

In the harsh light of exposure
the reality sinks in
what I expect from people
is not expected from within.

Clarity brings sadness
seasoned with regret
that so much time was wasted
on the delusional mind-set.

That somehow I was better
my sins did not match his
that I'm the only victim
touched by all of this.

Pause, then hit rewind,
silly girl can't turn back time.
What you sow, you later reap,
no escaping Karma's reach.

There was an old woman
who lived in a shoe
she had so many secrets
she didn't know what to do

Knock, knock
Who's there?
Skeleton
In your closet.
Rattle, rattle.

I'll huff
and I'll puff
and I'll blow your cover.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary
how does your garden grow?
Cause it's fertilized with bull.

Little Jack Horner
sat in a corner
eating crow.

Battling your demons
is easier with a sword
than the stupid stick.

Live with honor...
Die with hope.

I get it.
Living in fear that your darkest secrets will be revealed or you may not measure up to what others think you are.
Very well written and very well described.
Tops!

I'm not the man they think I am at all..........

Wow, great write. Forgive my embarrassment for how much I relate. I have said this many a time (in countless comments, no doubt), but it is eerie how a poem picks me sometimes. Much like a cat sizing up its prey. I can be scrolling the home page, or someone's account, and a title will just grab me, and sure as 'ish' it will be exactly what I needed to hear.

Thank you. ;)
