If I Could

Contributed by JamesStockdale on Thursday, 8th January 2015 @ 09:05:25 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

If I could turn back the hands of time
What kind of man would I be
A carpenter, a painter
A lawyer, a doctor
A Nobel laureate

A sophisticated man
A working man
A man about town

A writer, a poet
A simple man
Without a plan

A man you care not to know
An honest man
A man full of woes
One who is rolling in the dough

Would I be married
Or single
Or just an average Joe

Life is often complex
If you dare to go it alone
It can be simple
If you're one in the know

Would I be remembered
For my place in time
Or just another has been
Out of time

For me to know
Is not God's plan
For now I'll just be happy
Being who I am

Really enjoyed this, well said and well written, not to mention sound advice, I too have questioned what the other road taken might have looked like at times. Thanks for sharing.

The many ponderings of who we could be
The realization that it is not we
And the satisfaction to be who we be.

I like it. It's often a way I feel myself. :)

A really fine poem, Sir. You are who you are, and the answer to all your questions in this poem have been answered in the person you are today.

"For me to know
Is not God's plan
For now I'll just be happy
Being who I am"

The greatest gift (and one of the most rare) on the entire planet earth is to 'be happy with yourself', so count yourself lucky, my man!

// // Exactly but it`s still really fun to contemplate those things.

I sometimes find myself wondering how my alternate universe guy is doing.

I love the grand acceptance of this and the thought process behind it as well.

Thank you.

If you could turn back the hands of time, what would you want to change?
