Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Doesn't Work

Contributed by Beyfoxman5 on Thursday, 25th December 2014 @ 02:40:34 PM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

When you fear that your body is not good enough
Tap in to to you mind
Look at yourself, in supersedes everything
It is what gets your to the finish line

When you have lost touch, feel, smell, and taste
And defeat tries to creep on your face
Try for perfection once again
Lick your lips, it is victory you will taste

If you think your skills betray you
Know it is victory you possess
If you are wondering where is comes from
Feel your heart beating in your chest

If the detractors shun your skills
Know they can't measure your tough
Ha, they don't know you are your toughest critic
Your best is never good enough

So when crunch time is near
And you have reached the 11th hour
Tap in to your hours of grunt work
And they will give you victorious power

Talent gets you in the lobby
But it doesn't get the elevator to work
It is hard work that lifts you to the top floor
It is what elevators can not measure, it drives them berserk

I will say it again but clearly for the first time
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work

I love the line "talent gets you in the lobby, but doesn't get the elevator to work." So true, great write.

I Like this poem for its simple yet strong message.

"And when you have done all these things through torrent gale and tempest
Give history to mortal man to let his soul not perish
Grant light and life and liberty
Show us the dawning day
When death and pale the circumstance
Will one day fade away"

Excerpt from "O'le Writer of the Ages" By Archie Brown

Sometimes a message is worth more if it is given by the unrefined and unschooled.
