Someone I Used to Know

Contributed by Archie on Saturday, 13th December 2014 @ 03:09:08 PM in AEST
Topic: SongLyrics

At this time I cannot say who this poem is dedicated to. I want to protect them even though in a way . . . I realize that I still love them even though I am running away from them.

You remind me of the ones I used to know,
of faith on Sunday mornings,
and a cappella songs,
of hugs and humble greetings
I gave not long ago.
A broken place remains to hold those bones

You remind me of the ones I used to know.
''High standards'' they would goad me,
I did not want to go.
The road they wanted me to walk
was one they would not roam.
A broken heart is what remains of what I know

Sometimes I'm tempted to go back,
that place I called my home
There's nothing there but hollow heavy stones.

A name to spark an engine
that burned out long ago;
bereft of all the things that made it go

And there my words fell on deaf ears
no one could hear my groans

Will I ever heal
will I ever see
the seeds that I have sown

So much memory and pain has been bestowed;
their love was something that I used to know

This is beautifully written... made me think of Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward Angel which I read long ago... I remember the writing of the first thoughts of the baby, and later on about the town, as though a person is born first as an angel that has fallin',
and then finds their mortal being which must travel on. What was it, you can never go home angle, I think he said.
Your poem is interesting because you characterize a part that is really really special which at the same time sadly one cannot recreate since all the players, as well as the writer have indeed moved on in one way or another.
Thanks for sharing!

Peace!

It seems that it is going around
that love of yesterday.
I have a love of twenty five years
that has stepped back in my way.

Yes,, Will Dunn,, And i do understand

This poem and your descriptive words make me think of a place I have known too. It is true, sometimes all it takes is a word or phrase to draw us back to a person or place we once knew. Is it a part of history worth exploring again?
That is the question only you can answer.

Very thought provoking poem, Arch. I love it.
