Blackberry Jam or Wine

Contributed by Invierno on Sunday, 7th December 2014 @ 02:06:11 AM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

Oh my God,
I remember picking
blackberries in my youth,
and then we would bring them to my mom and dad;
we hoped she would make jam,
and hoped she would not make wine,
picking blackberries for my parents-
A sad and happy time.
Mostly she made jam:
I don't remember forty years ago
If we ate jam or they drank wine-
My father drank deep and we smeared
steep on bread and through it all
we connected through jam and wine-
either way we grew closer thanks to
plush and lush blackberries on the vine.

Hi there boet

What a beautiful write. At face value it seems like a very simple strait forward poem of memories, but this one takes me back to my childhood days. Its these kind of experiences in life that determine who we are and what our attitude will be towards life. For there is good and bad in everything in life. In this poem is the focus your dad drinking wine or you eating jam? I don't see it that way. I see that through all what went on a family still united and stood strong no matter what. No scars no bad blood no negativity just positive beautiful emotion heart and sole that stood the test of time. God bless

Greetings
Gert
