Simple

Topic: LovePoetry

It isn’t the fact that
The day that I met you my jaw hung open
And I was unable to say a word to you.

It isn’t the way that
I watched from distance while you unwittingly snaked across, Illuminated by the cheap and tacky lights
Reflecting off of a bruised and battered disco ball.

It isn’t the eye contact
Or the awkwardly smiling moment we shared
Before a single word was spoken.

It’s the way you cock your head
In this hidden field, look at me and smile,
Take my hands into yours,
Adorn me with daisies,
Plant a kiss on my cheek like raindrops
Evaporating from a window, clearing up the tears
You can’t know I’ve shed.

It’s the way that you hold me
Protectively in your arms, comforting me with your body heat, cradling me.

You needn’t tell me that everything is going to be alright.
Your very presence says
‘I love you already. It’s as simple as that.’

Oh that it were true.
Oh that it were that simple!
