Between The Lines

Topic: sarcasticpoetry

I know I have my manual
on how to write a poem;
It's here somewhere inside
this place I call my home.

Ah yes! Here it is, beneath
a tasty recipe;
This book I found for a pound
on how to write better poetry.

Let's take a look- this wonder book,
and see just where I've erred;
Oh no! It's plain as day!
It says because I'm scared!

I get high marks for rhyming,
and structure is straight A's,
but all my thoughts on good and evil
have brought a frowny face.

The book says puppy dogs
and love, (found and lost) the best;
always leave the reader smiling;
That's how you pass the test.

But lines and rhymes placed just so
because page six would have it done,
doesn't really fancy me
If I plan on having fun.

So long book, I hate so say,
(as I never throw a book away)
but just this once I'll break my rule
and give it use as heating fuel.

Heating fuel, oh yeah!!! Great use for that book. I defy poetry logic too. Like this one.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the smile with that finish. :) My fear in grade two was that I'd have to start every poem with; "Roses are red, violets are blue..." Thank goodness I abandoned that theory, and ignored any English teacher who tried to scold me into writing Shakespeare-type writes. Phew! Catastrophe averted.

I think the only rule that should be followed is to follow your heart. That is where the poetry flows from, and rules can be stifling.

Making sense of what one thinks as illogical. That is the trick. If people are like sheep, you are the deer. Nice work.

Best,
