~The little white house~

Contributed by shelby on Saturday, 15th November 2014 @ 02:15:35 PM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

Many many years ago a little house was built
it started out as a log cabin, small cozy and modest.
It resided near the rivers edge for a little while
I think about it long ago sitting there, makes me want to smile.

Then it was decided it would be moved to a new spot.
I bet back then that was a chore, a job they must have got.
It left the rivers edge and landed in the outskirts of the city
in a little place named Rexburg, off 5th west street.

Grandma and Grandpa, had a little girl
who grew up to become my mother.
Grandpa worked real hard, and raised a farm of pigs.
Grandma and mom helped long days
working, taking care of the animals, loving and caring.

The little white house was always cozy, grandma kept it spit shined clean.
Her yard and flowers also kept, her apples at harvest time, sheen.
Grandpa got sick, and then the great Teton dam flood hit,
Grandpa passed away, the little house was filled with water
but it didnt float away, like so many did .

A sad time, little white house all covered in flood slime,
grandpa gone to Heaven. Sitting out in the silted yard,
sullen and sad, dumping a two year supply of garden vegies in the trash.
I remember it well, the feelings, the smells, and grandma sitting straight as a rail
on that chair, not a tear shed her hands working steady and easy.

Lots of fun at the little white house
Sad ones too, grandma left us, snoops passed away
Shalee soon after, the little white house felt empty not the same
it seemed to cry as it missed Grandmas hand.

Mom and dad remarried and lived in the little white house.
Tended garden, and yard, still flood irrigated the lawns.
Dad tended the little pine tree's they dug from the mountain side.
Today they are towering beauties, proud against the sky line.

Then we lost Sweety, what a sad day, soon after dad passed
with my little brother holding his hand, his wife and mom by his side.
The little White house grew sullen once again, along with everyone else.

Mom in the little white house all alone, the first time in her life.
Just she and Coco there, well a couple weeks ago our Coco died.
Mom all alone alone
The sell was made final, now she has a new place.
A happy time, a sad time all mixed into one.

The little white house was the last of my childhood,
now every single place I had was gone.
Mom lived most of a life time there, now she parted ways with her little home.
A must it was but still, it churns an emotional foam,
because no matter what, it is hard to say goodbye to a home,
and home it was, the last little bit left.

Such an easy armchair style you have. This reads like a conversation with an old friend. What a compliment you pay readers by inviting them into your life with an open heart.
A wonderful story, a rocking chair style, I enjoyed your bittersweet memories, and came to recall my own home. The nostalgia is irresistible and your heartfelt imagery softens the loss. But most of all your candor makes me feel as if we have been friends for years. Thank you for speaking TO me and not at me! softerware

Hi Michelle, this Is such a wonderful write. I just sat back so relaxed and read It. Sad In parts, yes, but Isn't that life. The little white house went through much but was always there. I do enjoy reading snippets of peoples lives. I've forgotten so much about my own. I Loved the Imagery, It was as If you were there, living through each scene you set before us. Now that Is an art, to make the piece so real people could almost be there. Your pen has run gold on this piece Michelle. Have a good day. Catch you later. Your Friend always....MIKE.
