Nylon line steel barbed on end,
woven threads tamed to squares for capture
netted value fleshly caught and ripped.
Wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow
of single tire and balance
meets the fishmonger fresh from the deep
to market with scales, flaky meat and fins.
Mackerel here, mahi there, tuna down the quay of smells
pungent over yells “Fresh octopus today!”
Saline farmers sweat crimson blood sans regret-
fair trade, commercial yin and yang;
the sea (as man) requires gain for loss;
a life, a thumb,
a curse the pox on all sharp dorsal rested now,
nestled in shaved ice,
a bed of flesh
portioned for plates dabbed with aioli-
fowl and fish commiserate
'neath sprigs of rosemary with all the thyme in the
world to end (as if) fecal matters,
thence to home
through rain or drain
colour and atoms rearranged 'ere return to sea.

I felt like we were walking down a street in a movie, so vivid are your words! A great visual, "a curse the pox on all sharp dorsal rested now, nestled in shaved ice, a bed of flesh"..are you certain you're not a vegetarian?
The ending is perfection: "color and atoms rearranged 'ere return to sea." Close the book; it doesn't get any better than this.

Great wordplay here, and to think it all began with 'fishmonger'. This flowed really well and was full of imagery.

Interesting concept, maybe we should all try this approach and see where it leads.
I did once read of famous music stars that would randomly cut phrases out of newspapers and put them together to make lyrics, I guess not quite the same but similar principle..........see where things take you.
Nice write

Eyes wide shut see sea only love
Haddocks eyes
Catching butterflies
Searching souls
In fields of rye
Waves upon the shoreline collapse
Into mutton pies
Love you dearly
Aww your awesome
Just ignore me i ramble
So sorry, but ur writing here compelled me |
