Another set of crossroads fades into view,
Paths filled with broken hearts and private fortresses,
Will you walk into oblivion once again?
You make a closed fist into an open palm,
When the ruse is revealed you play the doting victim,
Will you finally draw that line in the sand?
If you could get by without inertia,
If you could think of all the fire in your wake,
If you could give- never wanting in return,
Could you really be what you hoped?
If you could put in motion electric dreams,
If you could prove your worth to the ones who matter,
If you could finally be proud of yourself,
Would it hurt less when I gazed on my reflection?
Handouts and scraps on the table of failed ambition,
The smell of lingering affection stained your pillows,
Will you ever really get those memories back?
Forged into a timid monstrosity,
Trivia abound but knowing nothing of what matters.
Could you put yourself aside for anyone?
If you really are an island,
If you really are the target,
If you really are so blind,
Could you even understand this?
If you really are so arrogant,
If you really are the villain,
If you really just don’t care,
Can you ever find salvation?

Splendid. Love the format, the flow, the repeated theme, examining every corner looking for answer in a dozen questions!
Birthdays seem to invite us to question ourselves! the only one we have to prove our worth to is within us, by our own permission. I wish for us, many more poems like this one to enjoy, and for you, many more inspired writes worthy of the one you already are! Well done!
