I was just perusing my account
Realizing there is a decade of writing here.
Granted some time was missed,
And not all my musings are here for the reading.
I have lost some to time,
To friends and a lover.
It seems to that I am still abnormal,
Although my age is catching up with my old soul.
I have done and seen a lot.
I have been to war,
I have killed men, women, and children
All for patriotism.
God bless America...right?
I have fallen in and out of love
Love had its fallout with me
I have hurt others
I have been lost,
I have played a safe and quiet game,
I have been content to be.
Risking nothing,
And gaining little from it.
There have been no high stakes emotional wagers here,
Except one,
And I lost her to my apathy.
I feel like a parasite,
Just living until there is no more living to be had.
There is more to life than just being.
And a life unexamined
Is a life not worth living.
But so is a life not lived to its fullest potential.

We do what we can, with what we have, at the time we have it. "playing a safe and quiet game" "risking nothing" can be a time of finding ourselves.
My favorite line is "and a life unexamined is a life not worth living."
How sad to have never taken the time to be still and feel our own worth!

I was drawn right in, as I have recently been musing on my time here as well. Some poignant stand-out lines in this somber piece. I need to read this again, and maybe again after that. This poem has put me in a reflective mood.

I'm sorry your soul had to suffer such abuse at the false alter of patriotism. I feel for you, man.
"Off to our lonely sniper battle,
You and I?
Nine hours, and
'ere a hair twitched, and why?
Are you from East Asia?
I'm your enemy! I'm from Oceania
and you're from Eurasia (or East Asia, I forgot)-
I'm fighting you this week (or not),
Oh! Bah!
Borders laid in place by fools with
wealth as god-
I bow not to and lift rifle not to
fools and pawns such as I-
this world is filled with soul-killers
bugging, begging, clouding eyes.
