That gilded auburn hair still lingers,
Although she hasn't been around for awhile.
It tickles my mind
And I remember.
The walk along the river,
The sway of her hips.
She tempted greatness from me
She expected nothing less,
And I gave it to her, all.
Like a velvet smoke she flooded into my life,
And just as quickly vanished
At the behest of others.
And I let her go,
Like a damn fool.
I curse myself for not trying,
For not holding tighter.
And now she is a reminisce,
A pleasant memory with myself,
Which will fade with time.
It will become less and less a memory
Until I cannot remember her face
Or the sound of her voice.
They are fond memories
But they are a prison too
Tormenting me of my missteps,
Leading me to the paths I should have taken.
She stained me,
And I am broken.
Not because of her,
But because of the possibilities.
She looms ever before me
A prize to be patiently waited upon,
One day reclaimed,
And joyously celebrated.
I am in no position to make demands though,
Beggars can't be choosers,
At least that is what they say.

Some say the best chooses
Some and all the rest are just beggars
Or pompous foolhardy
Sorts say such things
Some say
That beggars are we
In a banquet of beggars
For all to see
Others don't see anything
No matter what they are given
They only want still more
Is it a mistake to know
of mistook steps
before one leaps
with all their heart
Finding it was too late
Is it paradise lost
Or is there such a thing
as unrequited love
one might stumble upon
Interesting ... charming the heart
hopefully in reflective stance
that pictures true beauties worth
Love, is it a choice to choose...
Or is it better somehow hope oneday
to define
Well said my friend!
This is actually a well written poem
worth reading.
Thanks!
Peace! |

Ah, yes. It is often difficult to appreciate what we have until it is forever lost. One of life's harshest lessons, in a way. Although, both 'love' and 'loss' are key components to growth, but no one wants to hear that. That's a tough one...Well expressed and written.
Surely your auburn haired beauty would like to read such heartfelt honesty from you? Is it ever too late to try?

Chasing shadows of what might have been, raw and honest means I hear you. |

But Haunted you should know we are both married, although we had something for a little while, until we couldn't. unethical certainly, but I'll be damned if she wasn't my match. she understood everything about me. and in the short time we were together she inspired me to write again after almost a decade. she is the reason I am finding myself again. maybe one day she will read these |
