One Word at a Time

Contributed by ScorpionFire88 on Wednesday, 15th October 2014 @ 04:33:09 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

"If you want to be a writer, you should write something, anything, every single day"
But what if the words are stuck inside you, trapped behind broken fragments of your heart, unable to break free?
How do you begin to write when even picking up a pen causes you to feel defeated, embarrassed by yourself?

I can't produce beautiful, magical, love filled words. All that comes forth are dark, mangled thoughts. Pain. Hatred, disgust in the world and in myself.

I read today that hatred is still an emotion, and maybe latching onto that anger is better than feeling nothing at all.

So, how do I write when all I can do is cry?

...One word, one day, at a time.

Today's word is not pretty or inspirational. But it's real.

Depression.

Tomorrow I'll write another word.

Not choppy at all. Honest. Relatable. Real.

And this?

I can't produce beautiful, magical, love filled words. All that comes forth are dark, mangled thoughts. Pain. Hatred, disgust in the world and in myself.

Poetry often gets a bad rap for being full of flowery love. That is a small percentage of it. More than anything else, it is meant to evoke emotion and push the creative. Keep doing what you are doing, it's working.

Welcome back.
