ENGLISH 101 12

Contributed by softerware on Saturday, 4th October 2014 @ 05:25:02 PM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

My English students taught me a few new ways to see;
The words I took for granted, til they explained to me;
Words are different HEARD than SEEN; (see if you agree!)

PREPARED means that your ready; there’s little left to chance;
Unless you’re in a kitchen; then you’ve peeled it in advance!

SEAMSTRESS: Is a person who knows and sews it right!
Or maybe it’s a symptom that the dress is way to tight!

FORKLIFTS: as we all know move pallats with finesse;
But some think it’s the leading cause of why the seams will stress!

STANDARDIZE: Makes everything appear the same to me;
But then again it best describes our eyes mascara-free!

DESPAIR: Refers to moods that leave us in a funk;
But listen and it tells you what we all keep in the trunk!

ADMINISTER: To plan it all from sales campaigns to searches!
Or else the guy who writes those weekly signs in front of churches?

IDENTITY: Is who you are, your address and your state:
(Mammographer’s should have to show this on their license plates!)

COMPOSE: To calm, assemble, or else support creation;
But said by a photographer, it’s just an invitation!

LOCOMOTIVE: Pulls the freight from sea to shining sea;
Unless you’re in a courtroom and insanity’s your plea!

ENGRAVING: Makes it fancy, improving it’s condition!
The opposite applies when its performed by a mortician!

FONDUEs: improve food’s flavor with chocolate or cheese!
But for those obstaining, it’s FONDON’T if you please!

CAPTIVATE: Is charming and disarming all at once!!
Except describing cannibals, and what they did for lunch!

DELIGHTED: Would be full of joy, the opposite of pout;
Unless of course you’re speaking of the power going out!

As they're sure to tell you; fake it if you stall!
Cause words are only words, and no one knows them all!

Love the play on words and their meaning. Your poem fired up my brain this morning and put a grin on my mug.

Our language shouldn't be taken for granted as straightforward and unambiguous, as any SL speaker would affirm.

I feel as though the Supreme Court has a loco motive
I pout when the lights all go out, but then
got a little twelve year old artist who makes her own clothes
seems stressful don't it

play in words they will be have been all some
say
each and everyday

man I wish I would have passed enlish 101 first time around... read either way back or forth what do they call it

Peace!

Oooh, I love wordplay. English is fun, but I do not envy those who must learn it as a second language. This poem reminds me of various challenges I have come across as a parent...Explaining words and such. Needless to say, this put a grin on my face. Thank you.
