If I'd Known You Didn't Like Yellow

Contributed by invierno on Thursday, 18th September 2014 @ 09:24:09 AM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

My sneakers are frayed;
they been slapping dirt all day,
it was concrete before-
n' I don' know how much more,
these old sneakers can take
that been carry'in me away;
it's been a hell of a long time
since they felt a wooden floor.

The canvass was creaky,
new rubber soles were squeaky-
do you remember when we bought 'em,
those yellow matching kicks?
We laughed and we loved
as we tromped around in sand,
and that night over dinners'
when the trouble began.

If I'd known you didn't like yellow,
we could have gone for red-
you never told me- if you had only said,
“Honey, that color, it just won't do for me”,
but along with all the other things,
I never heard a peep.

Now that Utah is behind me,
one step at a time,
and I've all the days in front of me
to ponder and surmise-
I used to ask myself,
“Where did I go wrong”,
but now I see with you behind me,
you were crazy all along.

You were craaaa-zyyyy, all along!
I put a ring on your finger,
I'll blame it on the bong-
now you're two states from me,
next week I'll make it three
and your failure to communicate,
a distant memory.

You were crazy, all along...
You were crazy, all along...
I won't see you again, I'm tellin' you so long,
goodbye for now and ever
and, oh...
you were crazy all along.
