Twelve and six years under the rail-
A United States Marine?
Why not?
I bought the lie wholesale swallowed-
birdie from nest
to jaws and gaping mouths-
Young, eyes closed to wrong
I followed-
failing eyes closed ears open
to recruiters song.
That sharp man in Dress Blues
(only required daily in his MOS)
patriotic glory called
defender of this rotten mess-
this charade covered
lies as thick as hills of dead.
Red.
That should be the Marines color-
dying first for what?!
So Army in the minions battle
by the score drop deep like green flies
careful!
Don't tattle how it's
all for land, or oil
all this toil lining silken pockets
of those that count the dead by numbers.
Another country? Check, and lock.

Been here a bit...not so long, (but long enough) to know the ratios of reads to comments.
Fair to say not a popular stance? I'm sorry fellow poets. Poetry is a process of awaking- not just by what you write but also by what you read.
It's a very, very difficult thing to accept that certain truths can render so much meaningless. I suppose it may be more comfortable to cling to a vision, "My Son died to protect our way of life". Certainly of more comfort than "My son died so stock on an oil company will rise", or "My son died to keep pressure on China in an effort to maintain a trading superiority." or even, "My son died for greedy murderers that I voted for...evil people that seek to kill us..." Well, if I had my druthers, I think I would choose one of those banal straws. EXCEPT- I cannot live with a lie for comfort. The bed is spoiled ere I climb in, knowing the truth is there and there isn't a blanket big enough to cover that lie.
Not sure where I'm goin here, but I do hope cognitive dissonance doesn't take to big a bite out of your reasoning abilities.
With deep respect for those that have paid the ultimate price to defend what they believe in. My heart goes out to them all. |

truly a moving piece, so many young men die and for what? countries
that do not want us there in the first place, who scream 'die infidels!'
and are not greatful, let them kill each other and let our boys stay home,
i don't care about them anymore, let's try something different and take care of US first............
hugs n' love nessa |
