IN CUPID'S ROLE

Contributed by hray42 on Friday, 15th August 2014 @ 06:36:00 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

i was just a boy in youth when i left the first rose
it was placed in early morning on your window sill
just a gesture of my love, i suppose
i do remember that day so fondly still

when you awoke and found that very one
the smile on your face shined so bright
it easily eclipsed our mighty sun
while the embrace you gave me was too tight!

a plan was then set forth, or invented
a pattern of my behavior to please your soul
never was it forgotten, or relented
i forever played my part in Cupid's role

i placed another in every year to follow
again, and again, until the current date
a sentiment to make it hard to swallow
as i tear up to see how it's gotten late

i wish for more years to give to you that flower
but a thousand added would never come to do
i will accept that hug in maybe our final hour
for i am tired, and i know you're tired too...

Lovely and emotional. "I will accept that hug in maybe our final hour for I am tired, and I know you're tired too..." That line got me. What a great write. Take care and God bless,

Deidra
