Ceasing to Be

I have come unraveled.
Disconnected from the tapestry that once was my life.
All the colors have run to grey.
The wells of my heart are ashen, and ring hollow as a desert canyon. I no longer answer the knock.
Random thoughts scurry about but find no shelter or sustenance upon the barren landscape.
There is no music.
Only the dull thud of a pump that still runs the long-abandoned factory that once was filled with life and purpose.
Tick. tick.
The memories fall away. The dance has ended.
Shuffling in the sameness with nothing to await,
in the gathering stillness I will welcome at last, the silence.
