Golden Love In Masons

Topic: StoryPoetry

I got my tires...
n' they're rollin' round and round...
feels like they's on fire
just' a burnin' up the ground...

I'm haulin' ole' white lightnin'....
to the boys, they need it bad,
whoops n' hollers greet my sightin'
that moonshine thirst it drives 'em mad..

Well, that's how I do it...
make my livin' doncha know....
solving po' folks problems...
Oh how they love to tilt n' throw-
it's golden love in masons,
blindin' them to their woes-
their women all get purty..
that old corn sure starts the show...
that old corn sure starts the show......

Now I hear the law's a comin'....
wanna take my life from me..
Well, you can bet I'm sayin sump-in..
An' I don't think they'll agree....

Nathan burst in one mornin'
n' shook me clean from my sleep...
the new day was a bornin'
He yelled “We're in trouble steep!”

My dream didn't need disturbin..
Sue didn't stop my hand....
I only had one more button,
till I was in the promised land.

Well, that's how I do it...
make my livin' doncha know....
solving po' folks problems...
Oh how they love to tilt n' throw-
it's golden love in masons,
blindin' them to their woes-
the women all get purty..
that old corn sure starts the show...
that old corn sure starts the show......

Well, this troubles been a brewin'
even bigger than my still...
I'm the wrong man to be screwin'
and now I've had my fill....

I grabbed my pappy's scatter
and I head out the door...
reckon's time to splatter
some yeller lawmen on the floor...

My tires, they was blistered
just a tearin' up the road
but those badges was a waitin',
it's almost like they knowed.

Five cars fell in behind me...
there was six just up ahead...
I grinned an' gunned that motor..
an' I pushed her to the floor....
now here it comes a flyin'
sailin' hard like rain of lead..
The last thing they heard
was me a yellin'
I'm gonna live before I'm dead.....
gonna live before I'm dead......

Well, that's how I did it...
made my livin' doncha know....
solving po' folks problems...
Oh how they love to tilt n' throw-
it's golden love in masons,
blindin' them to their woes-
the women all get purty..
that old corn sure starts the show...
that old corn sure starts the show......

Butter, maze
purty is all aflame
dusty wistful
po folk glen
not too far from
freeway
fray
honk bristle
honky tonk
style blue
ice like-jazz
where you know
to go under
harvest moon
Why not be nocturnal
and dance

before them treads wear
as they might
wear true

Po or poor or pure po ets
delight

who knows --- this is
it Invierno, corn's genetic
wisdom of thought

It sings both of festive regalia
as well as one of my heroes
Barbara McClintock American scientist,
The respected cytogeneticist.

Hooray... this reminds me of the mailman's mailman, The great John Prine's lyrics, if you didn't see it, google John Prine on Stephen Cobert...

Peace!

Hey man, "How Lucky" by John Prine performed on Colbert, sadly is no longer available.
But what's cool, is on Youtube you can see John Prine's song, "How Lucky" done a while back when he was younger just playing out on a porch... even better. Your poem made me think of him...

Peace!

What a song this would make! What a great story all by itself! This is a book one can't put down. Very fun read. I love the way the slang picks up the rhyme!
A most entertaining piece, and quite a departure from the gentleman poet I know!
