If they Only Knew

It doesn't take much for my world to crumble-
an afternoon alone- that's all that's required
for me to slip and slide and dive
so far inside I have a tough time climbing out.
Of the irony's of the world (at least mine)
I find
this the greatest to be found-
all those who depend on me, all those around
I see-
if they knew how fragile, what a Fabergé egg I really am-
with a lick of sense they would tail out and run,
but-
they don't know, so clear and consummate do I play my role-
provider, lover, father, giver-
No idea- none.
Alone (so rare, so very rare indeed),
I tend (at last, praise God) to MY needs-
Emmylou, Freddy Fender,
tears and sobs and whiskey, and smoke
perhaps a toke or two-
(as I said), if they only knew.
Bastion that I am to so many-
so smart, so 'together', so bright, so 'capable'-
they know not the mistakes I make (in me) every day-
they only see the one who ere's not a peep-
they sleep sound I am here and will take care..
How fragile this perception I put forth.
How fragile this misconception I portray.
I'm sharing here, today, I'm not the man they think I am.

I really felt your poem. We all live with secrets even from the people we are the closet to. I understand that more then anyone. Be proud of who you are. Your secrets do not have to define you. I was really touched by your poem.

My Dear friend
Well let me quote you then commend you.
they don't know, so clear and consummate do I play my role-
provider, lover, father, giver-
No idea- none.
What you describe here is not a weakness as you quite eloquently put.
'what a Fabergé egg I really am-'
What you actually describing here is a very strong person who dose not give up no matter how insurmountable the task at hand. Yes we would like to console ourselves with the fact that its because we are weak, instead of acknowledging that we are stronger than what we think.
If I misunderstood your poem please correct me.
Great write and love feeding off the positive energy hiding in it. Blessings
Greetings
