'Peace on Earth' for what it's worth

When we went to school it was part of the rule
To be taught fundamentals for living,
There was adventure and health
You had to have wealth,
Recognition, security, and giving.
There was one they forgot and, like it or not,
Accounts for the mayhem and killing,
The schools do not teach it,
Religion doesn't preach it,
And nobody cares or seems willing.
What it is they forgot and I..like it not
Is respect for the people around you,
Let's not kill our good brother
nor kill one another
nor those that remotely surround you.
Three quotes, I submit, are close, I admit,
But don't hit the nail on the head,
'Thou shall not kill,'
'To man, Good Will'
'Peace on Earth', so I've read, so it's said
They said not to smoke, and there wasn't a bloke
who didn't get onto your back,
Doctor Koop started, true
Then they all jumped on you
Telling you to throw out the butt pack.
I'm sure they were right but that's not my fight.
A campaign like that was dynamic,
If the same kind of pressure
with viewpoint some fresher
Could teach you to talk..not to panic.
If they taught you that greed, planted the seed,
growing hate and dispair in some others
Forget all the war
with horror and more
Grow peace if you could have your druthers.
It's unique, I must say, a global array
To make all earth's citizens related
It is said, DNA
seems to prove it that way
Although some of it can be debated.
There'd be no Pearl Harbor, or bombs that could clobber,
We'd all clasp each other and play,
Life would be simple,
At worst, a stray pimple,
Would spoil our beautiful day.
It could be,
Don't you see,
You're related to me
and me be to he
and he be to she
and she be to thee.
and around and around
we'd be bound,
we'd be bound.

I love this poem and the message. Yes I to wish for a world of piece and happiness. I find it a rare occasion when I even watch the news anymore because its all so sad and depressing. Maybe if we all unite in one thought we could bring this to pass for this world. What a wonderful thought and dream to have!! Friend your great!!
