Will you wake me before I die?

Will you wake me up right before I die?
I just want the chance to say goodbye.
I'll look at you with my last breath
And say "Thank you for the gift of death."
You'll watch as the life leaves my face
And my worth is gone without a trace
You'll cry out every single tear
Screaming "I wish you were still here!"
You'll hold me as my body flops
Feel me go cold as my heart stops
Coat my face with your tear drops
Weeping goodbyes haunt your thoughts
When my day comes will you wake me up?
So that I will know I'm finally dead?
Will you watch me as I fade away?
Does the thought fill you with dread?
Would your heart break if I was gone?
Would you wish that I'd pulled through?
Or will you simply just move on
from me to someone new?
Will you slowly kill them too?
Or will your love keep them alive?
If I'd gotten enough love from you
maybe I could have survived...

This poem longs for validation. Each line seeks worth, each question begs for recognition, and warns of the consequences of apathy. And in the end, the blame is given to another. How sad the theme that we have no worth unless it is mirrored in another's eyes.
Thank you for reminding us that our happiness is up to us, and what others think of us is none of our business!!
