My Love and Despair

Sliding through this dull life
Until mania grabs hold
Those guys you can't see
Those guys you can't hear
Those guys are my best friends
We alter the world
We make it beautiful
The colors taste sweet
The smells feel smooth
The sounds look beautiful
My mind's eye sees better than yours made of flesh
My muscles and tendons and ligaments and bones operate faster than sound
I take the bar you set in my hands
I twist the bar in knots
I throw it to the winds
I am the pinnacle of the race
I am the god you should believe in
And I love it
And I don't let up
And I push the envelope
And I break the barrier
And I'm sliding down
And my old friends
We made our world
They alter my world
They showed me love
Now they teach me fear
The colors turn sour
The smell's blunt edges maim
The once beautiful sounds look grotesque
My mind lost it's eye
My body quakes with terror
I am no god
I am at the bottom
The bar was set too high
It gains momentum
As it plummets to crush the soul I'm not sure I have
