It's Going To Be Okay

My mother once told me "It's going to be alright"
I tried hard to believe her and sleep through the night
What I woke to find
The madness still in my mind
Surrounded by a nation being led by the blind

I recall someone told me "Once you hit bottom, you can only go up"
Yet I find new depths everyday at the bottom of a cup
Drinking till my memories fade
The present blurs from the shade
Of the alcoholic cloud that I have made

Is this it? Is this the life I was promised to live?
I've given all I can till there's no more to give
Spread joy to many, yet I held none for myself
Sitting alone at home, an empty bottle on the shelf
Downing poison, no concern for my health

So was my mother correct? Will it all be okay?
I'm trying hard to believe but I'm failing poorly one could say
I dream of terrors at night only to wake to another day
This twisted ride is my life, a tragic Broadway play
The end of my suffering is for what I pray
