No Moon, No Light, My Heaven

Contributed by silvereyesinwinter on Tuesday, 1st July 2014 @ 09:53:39 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

What if the moon were to jump into the sea?
How darkness would be much sweeter;
Sweeter than ice cream;
Dropping of the face of a young child on a hot summer’s day

When light refuses to shine
When everyday is night
When the clouds are gray and it lightly
Rains on the cold heart that is mine

Freezing, yet turning away warmth
Drowning my heart in shallow water
In a desperate attempt to forget…
But no matter what I do, he keeps coming to the surface

In daily conversation,
In the careless words of the ignorant
I can’t push out what he did to me
I’m always forced to confront it.

Whether it’s in my testimony
Or someone who keeps pushing me to tell them that which I don’t want to talk about
I’m always in front of the face of my attacker, my demon, my Satan…
I want to win and let go but hating feels so good
And being in chains is so comforting...

Bold imagery pulls the whole piece tightly together into a fluid and hypnotic write.
Loved reading this.
