Memories And Me

Memories And Me

The Puppies are sleeping
And I smell coffee in the air.
It’s snowing outside
But I don’t care.

I can see them coming
From miles away.
The memories they have come
And they have come to stay.

I let them in
And we talk for a while
They tell me things
That make me smile.

It’s back in the days
When I was a child.
When things were simpler
And the days were mild.

I’m in the front yard
And I haven’t a care
There’s my little dog
That used to be there.

We go out back
pup, memories and me
Where the old tank still stands
Deep in the willow trees.

I hear daddy calling
He’s worried about me
I can see that old crooked finger
It’s shaking in the breezes.

Daddy, pup, the memories and me
We go up to the house
To have dinner
With the family.

I can feel this memory a coming
as I sit down
Tea glasses rattling
It’s the Train shaking the ground.

Momma’s in the kitchen
Putting chicken on a plate
She tells me to eat
it’s getting late.

I see Larry and James
And sissy and Paul
And yes momma and daddy
God knows I love them all.

The day is getting late
And the sun is going down
I have to go back
where I started this round.

I put pup down
And memories tell me
It’s not that far back
as they can see

I stand for a moment
And laugh and smile
I tell the family
I got to go for a while

I say it’s time
For me to go back home
To where my boys are sleeping,
All alone.

this makes one think in a vivid way about
tangible placeholders in ones life.

Extremely well put and a pleasure to read!

Thanks Texasman - and save this one yourself because it is a real dandy of a poem!

Peace!
