The Pain of Saying Goodbye

Contributed by hidden on Monday, 23rd June 2014 @ 06:44:31 PM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

You can’t move the clock backwards,
Return to the memories you had to leave.
So today I spent my hours reminiscing,
Trying to experience the happiness I no longer can retrieve.

Falling for a stranger,
One I’ll never see again,
I never knew his feelings,
It exemplifies the pain.

Moving forwards seems as impossible as going back,
How to get rid of this nostalgic feeling?
Knowing you’re leaving people that were friends,
How to start the process of healing?

Certain things pain me more than others,
I don’t understand my own heart.
I wish I could block the emotions,
Then it wouldn’t be so hard to part.

Not knowing if my memories will be experienced again,
Understanding I lost my chance to speak to him,
Knowing that the time will never move where I want it to be,
Sometimes aftermath of happiness causes the future to seem grim.

Great stanza.. I think we have all felt this way...god knows I did, do and will.

Thanks!

Great poem! It's so beautifully written and filled emotions which seem to me so personal yet relatable.

Even if you could turn the clock backwards it would not be the same... I have tried and failed miserably.... Hold the memories in your heart and move forward.... The one thing about love is that there is always more around the bend.
Wonderful piece you have shared.
Keep your chin up and your heart open.

i heard once that someone was carrying two suitcases everywhere
they went:: one was past and one was future........ they dropped the future
suitcase for it was far too heavy, then eventually dropped the past
case, amazingly then they could walk straight and live in the now,
~this is very beautifully penned; truly a thought provoking moving poem....

hugs n' love nessa
