The DEAL

Contributed by softerware on Saturday, 7th June 2014 @ 04:11:37 PM in AEST
Topic: group

The Deal

He was generous to a fault;
And that was his mistake;
For strangers saw the opening;
And figured it would take;

So little to deceive him; and cleverly relieve him;
Of all his worldly goods; but they misunderstood!

When every evening found him;
With needy ones around him;
He saw it not as greed;
But rather as a need; that only he could fill;
His “talent”, if you will.

His life was lived in certainty;
That riches lose allure;
That fame is soon forgotten;
While love, well spent, endures

None would fall beyond his reach;
He sought them out and gave to each.
Proud to be the giver; the seeker who delivered;
And anything he owned;
could be borrowed, shared or loaned.

In lieu of charging fees;
He gathered memories;
Of prayers with a sinner;
A beggar’s Christmas dinner;
The barefoot in his shoes;
The mutt who loved his stew.

Of walks down puddled alleys;
The drunks outside O’Malleys;
The cripple with her cane;
that he never saw again.

To some he was a pauper;
and probably a fool;
This man who came to find us;
When our fates were cruel.
--------------------------------
The stranger came one night;
to walk him toward the light.
He’d nothing left to give;
So well this life he’d lived.

The finest of eternities
was offered him, you see;
But in the end, the legend goes;
they granted him his plea.

He wished to guide the travelers;
That none would lose their way;
He asked to light the dead of night;
to help us find our way!

The proof lies in the stories;
Survivors love to tell;
Of brilliant lights across the night ;
that found them where they fell.

Before you call it fantasy;
Or blame the Northern lights,
Beware if you should lose your way;
what you profess tonight!

You can put your faith in science;
And lie there cold and pale;
Or hold well to the legend;
And live to tell the tale!

Of how he walks the heavens;
Still searching for the strays;
With pockets leaking moonlight;
And stars to give away.

Hi Soft

Once again you got me to read a long poem whahahahaha

I added what I think is a last line based on my faith and how I see the poem.

Of how he walks the heavens;
Still searching for the strays;
With pockets leaking moonlight;
Mercifully lighting our way.

This poem could mean different things to different people. What I take from it as a child of God is the reassurance that Jesus will always be there for me, that the lessons he came to teach and the miracles he came to perform were not in vain.
Stunning write that caters for all walks of life.

Greetings
Rus

I've got nuttin honey but my thoughts are along the same lines as Rus's. I like where he went with it. I was thinking Jesus too but I couldn't come up with anything. Maybe because it's noisy around here and I can never write anyway when it's noisy.

My best ones come late at night when no one but me is up.

I enjoyed reading it though. Way to go to get people involved.

Needs reflected... inwards, as he knew
they must so ordinarily do.
This is really it. You give meaning to life with this.
There is no invisible hand, so many have figured
out. Worth isn't about the size of ones wallet. So much to read in this. All your stuff is leaking out. The invincible spirit kindles bright. Reach for the stars. Empathy not suffering is it. I think of Tolstoy, his take on war, the infinitesimals we don't hear about but should, and everyday.

I'm as they say, a conservative, when I think about the FDR DEAL. I don't want to see it go wayside, I want it to to very much stay...

Thanks man!
Peace!

And remembrance's smiles of better days

I'm reminded of an old trucker's legend with this...Old Joe.
He would travel highways, always stopping for hitchhikers, runaways and assorted stranded motorists, giving them rides to his favorite diner, plying the distressed travelers with enough cash for a cup of coffee and a piece of pie. He would always instruct said travelers about two things...tell his favorite waitress that he would stop by after this run and to think always of the needs of others. The waitress, upon hearing these tales, would get somber and teary, informing the tellers of Old Joe and his story. He was coming down a highway that ran beside train tracks. A train that he passed was about to turn a bend and ram a school bus full of kids that had gotten bogged down crossing the tracks. Using his truck, he pushed the bus out of the way, in just the knick of time for them but not for himself. His cab was exactly where the bus was when the train arrived...and no time for either avoiding the inevitable collision.
That's the reader's digest version of the story, as I recall it. I certain there's as many versions as people who've heard of it. But your piece immediately brought that tale out of the dusty recesses of my warped little mind.
Good write!
Thanks for sharing...

I'm not religious, but:

"And his eys glistening, with God's rays"

My puny contribution to another great write.
