Nature, Killing, and You

Contributed by JackM on Tuesday, 3rd June 2014 @ 12:46:50 PM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

Nature is cruel, if I may cliché,
Please read along, perhaps I have a little more to say,

Those city types, you know who you are,
Your feeding ground is a kitchen, your watering hole, a bar,

You live alongside the Great Nature, you’re one thing, she another,
You two are different things, neither sister nor brother,

I am a hunter, have been since childhood,
But long ago, Nature found me a place, among the field and the wood,

What do you mean? How can this be?
You’re a killer of animals, you’re but nothing to me,

Animals live, they kill, and they die,
This what they’ve been about, ever since there’s been a sky,

Some folks just watch the Great Drama, nothing do they take,
Me, a as predator, actively participates,

But Nature is delicate, our hands must stay off,
Fact is, Nature is the Universe, and at you, she just scoffs,

Everything “man-made”, was drawn from her well,
Check your puny ego, or she may build for you, your own hell,

This way of mine, develops a sense, quite particular to me,
‘T was I, who noted the Robin, making a nest in that tree,

To me, it was quite obvious, three chicks had been hatched,
And for the last one to arrive, his siblings’ strength, he couldn’t match,

The two took to wing, so sad they exclaimed, and why, they asked, why must this be?
Those words had no meaning, for the helpless sadness, was felt by just me,

See the great forest, to lose it, would be a huge sorrow,
Will they be there though, to check it on the ‘morrow?

Shut up! Go Away! Your killing I just can’t take,
So be it, but please tell me, who hired that hit on your steak?

No matter, I will go on, tracking, stalking, and killing my prey,
And if Nature has a surprise for me, you can all hip, hip, hooray!

I have hunted but was never very good at it because of my eyesight. Not a great aim but I firmly believe that hunting / hunters are needed to maintain and control wildlife populations. I also believe that you have the right to hunt! Fully agree.

I really love this line: So be it, but please tell me, who hired that hit on your steak?

Everyone participates in the death of animals anyway, they just don't want to admit it or can't see it.

Like the poem. Keepa writin'!

Animals live, they kill, and they die,This what they’ve been
about, ever since there’s been a sky,
that is true however
animals kill to survive; humans are the only ones who kill
for no reason..... i've never seen an animal serial killer for
example, on the other hand it is also true if hunters don't
lower populations of some animals they will starve to death,
i do not agree with people who pay mucho bucks to kill an
endangered species to take a photo beside them dead, i
live in a forest with a bear for a neighbor, i may well be his
dinner some day, lol, {i easily laugh now, he is no where in
sight!} this is truly thought provoking, love the bit about the
birdling, your poetry is addictive, keep writing!

hugs n' love nessa
