all I have is a recording,
that you’ll ‘be back soon’
and to not go through your bag
or try and clean your room
nor check for emails
or worry needlessly
a promise held dear to me;
a respect for your privacy.
gone now those frustrations,
the tension and the tiffs
the worries and the pettiness,
replaced by mortal rifts.
now all that’s left are promises
looping endlessly,
and ramparts of denial
holding back reality.
an echo from another time
played over and over again,
to fight the burning impulse
to sift through what remains.
all I have is a message,
a few words in the gloom
‘I’m on my way, I love you too
and I will be back soon.’

This touches off a lot of memories, for many I am sure. Fragments and pieces of love left behind linger to haunt us. Only time takes the sting out of it. Maybe there is some reason "To fight the burning impulse to sift through what remains"..but I am a proponent of sifting! The more something is scrutinized, the less it enchants. Endless promises are seldom endless, thank goodness--But fine poetry such as this will serve you a lifetime! Keep your pen moving, and give your heart its voice; that we may, by your permission, follow your story. |

S,
Lost love - the saddest of all topics to write verse
on without drowning it in turbulent emotion.
Though emotion exist here, it's tempered with
realism and surrender.
