She had loved once, unchained cautious heart to the wheel of fortune
Bathed in satisfaction, aspired to the fulfillment of vivid dreams
Now no more than wilted rose, bloodstained and torn
Rooted in the cindered ground, ashen and cold
Jet black eyes veil all, tormented tempestuous thoughts twist inside
Sorrow binds the prisoner within her lonely shroud
To many a mystery, to none but self understood
Daughter of the Raven and child of the dark
Barren of emotion, pain long since bled with acid tears
Fair skin bleached to faded grey by twilight sanctuary
Cloaked in moonglow, chasing only shadows and memories
The dust of too many yesterdays choking each tomorrow
Her voice sold to the wolves who howl out her anguish
Broadcasting years of pain in dark forest symphony
For the one long departed, the lord of her happiness
Floating in the mist of her turbulent mind

I agree with Nessa. Really cool...made me think of Ivanhoe, Chaucer, dark English woods and night sounds. Fantastic job on the auditory and visual imagery.
The before and after is powerful. A fine job portraying how life can take a turn off a cliff and there is no magic powder to fluff about to bring that life back to solid ground.
Very well done, and I appreciate you letting me read this.
Best,
Invierno |

WOW. If you aren't published yet, you should be! This is elegant, exquisitely delicate, dark, and compelling. "the dust of too many yesterdays choking out each tomorrow".."rooted in the cindered ground, ashen and cold"…I'm keeping this one to read again on dark gloomy days, when the mood you have created is reflected in my window!
Splendidly longing and anguished; you have cast a spell. What a joy to be mesmerized!
Thank you so much!

Sorrow and melancholy with a bit of a folklore feel to it. Nice. |

Wow, Steve...I can see why the weather provided some inspiration for this awesome write!
"Cloaked in moonglow, chasing only shadows and memories
The dust of too many yesterdays choking each tomorrow"... These lines captivated me. Great work. Thanks for sharing...

Hi,
I often visit your page and am never disappointed,
except when you have not written for some time.
This time, though, disappointment has evaporated
and I am taken into your world of Poetry at
its very best in phraseology, metaphor, and
bold imagination. Well done, my friend.
