Why? Why am so different from her?
I call her my best friend, but it doesn't seem like that.
She has all the friends and all the guys seem to like her,
she is super athletic and really pretty,
but there is a darker side, a colder side, and she has released it on me.
When I ask a simple question, all I get is a nod, and she just walks away,
She playfully punches me and assumes t doesn't hurt, but it always does.
She finds it fun to just walk away from me, right in the middle of my sentence,
and now I am scared to ask her to hang out with me now.
"Don't feel like it", that is the answer I will probably get.
My mom tells me not to care and to stop comparing myself to her,
to leave it alone and she tells me I am perfect, but I don't see it.
Ignored, ditched, left, all the things she has done.
They will never leave me.
I have dealt with these problems for years now, trying to ignore them.
The one thing that bothers me about all of this is that she doesn't care!
She doesn't notice that her "best friend" is slowly slipping away.
She doesn't see that I have been upset, but when she is upset,
Everyone has to know about it and know what's wrong.
She is my only best friend, and it would kill me inside to loose her, but what can I do?
Why bother? It wouldn't change anything? Why?

Listen to your Mom. She is right. Obviously this 'friend' is not a friend at all. People change as they grow. This is a textbook case. She is not 'better' than you. You two are just going separate paths...one not less than the other...just different.
It's important that you retain your self-respect. To hold on to long to this person only demoralizes yourself....you don't need that. Good job on the poem! |
