BRING BACK MY SISTERS
Where were you
When the hoodlums
Came and herded my sisters
Out of the citadel of learning?
Where were you
When the hooligans
Drove off with my sisters
And shot at those darting off for safety?
Where were you
When Boko Haram struck,
Causing pain, grief and despair
In the hearts of civilised people?
I know you were languid
Because of the’ fat’ from Nigerian oil
Intoxicated by the tonic of ill-gotten gains
Stupefied by political wine
Arise now, arise now
From your stupor
For kindred spirits all over the world
Are calling for my sisters
I need them back
I need my sisters
Whatever it takes
I need them back!

Genius in simplicity and I feel the anguish. One of the better poems here as relates to pain, longing, and REAL tragedy...not our meaningless problems like the internet is to slow, or my car gets cruddy mileage.
This humbled me and made me recall, remember, realize that there is REAL suffering in the world.
Bless you man. I call to the winds and the wilds to bring your sisters back. |
