Departures

Contributed by spike on Sunday, 18th May 2014 @ 01:45:07 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

chill winds in Autumn
bring a light dusting of snow:
Fall can be so beautiful, but it’s
almost time to go.

waning green is being told
there’s not much time
for bringing gold, but
I just love its canvas bold,
against the press of Winter’s cold.

leaves rich in tans and reds
surrender perches with a sigh,
while birds migrating to the warmth
sing soft farewells across the sky.

and just ahead of frosty breath
beauty hides in season’s death,
to spring forth in seedling hearts
when Winter’s dark at last departs.

Very well constructed....wonderful flow and comforting familiarity of what comes next.

Autumn is my favourite season, so I especially like this. Winter is my last name, so another vested appreciation.

You have a firm and wonderful grasp on conceptual flow, and I applaud you for this contribution.

Best,

Invierno

What a beautiful picture you painted in my mind. I'm a winter person and where I live in South Africa we are not accustomed to snow like there by you. We do get snow but then you must travel hundreds of km's to see it. Grate poem well written. TFS

Greetings
Rus

This is breathtakingly beautiful, Spike. Excellent word choice throughout, which painted the imagery before my eyes. I love autumn, and when I read such a wonderful nature poem it makes me wish I could word so eloquently about the stunning, albeit fleeting beauty of the season.

Well done.

I've always enjoyed poems relating the changing of the seasons and this is no exception.
Nature has a mystery all of it's own, you've illustrated that so well here.
Nice work.

Soothingly-pensive mood to your poem. That gentle mourning of autumn's passing, with thoughts skipping winter to ponder spring. I'm sure we all do it, and thanks for so eloquently describing it.
Those tanned and red leaves surrendering their perches with a sigh is memorable, in a memorable poem.

S,

Autumn is still a few months away here, but I've
never been an Autumn man. It's a season that
yields so much and then just when you're
relishing the bounty beautiful, it takes it away
with a vengeance. Like giving a lollipop to a
child then grasping it from him/her. But your
verse captures this perfectly, and I particularly
like your ending where beauty hides in season's
death only to spring forth when the time is
right. Autumn's saving grace.
