I was a child, wth child-like eyes
I saw as a child, sight but never seeing
It was a child's life in all things
I had no fear and one enemy
That child existed so very long ago
That child was to live forever, he claimed
The child lied and died, not knowing why
That is the way of children...always doing, never knowing
A child passed...no black parade was seen
A man replaced the child...no fanfare was heard
And this man claimed one fear and no enemies
At the least, he thought the child's passing meant that
They were both wrong in quite the same way
The child had much fear and two enemies
The fear of dying ruled his life, truth and time despised him
The child never understood why
The man had only one real fear...living
The man only had one enemy...himself
That's how the story goes, as all eventually learn
The child may be the father to the man but neither really know
What becomes of the child besides being a memory
What must he do to live in spite of fear and enemies
When does he truly live and never die
What happens to the child if the father doesn't live
There was once a child with childish dreams
There is only a man now, remembering the child
The two have never met yet are as one
There is sadness for the child who lived and the man who can't

What a tapestry you are weaving of life's stages
here..In your work, child and adult cannot exist in the same moment--
I didn't believe that true, but after reading your analogy I am not so sure!! How sad we have to abandon our child to be a grown up. I kept rooting for the adult to protect the joyful child within..and that is the lesson I found in your challenging and enjoyable write!
"What becomes of the child besides being a memory"..is my favorite phrase..and the question begs an answer!

Hello reprobate,
This is challenging, conceptually. Kudos for taking it on, and also for realizing it is not fully developed. It's a beauty, an unpolished gem. I should like to tackle this myself, but would even more so wish to read it from you after taking a roll in the tumbler.
If you would be kind enough to send it to me when done, I would be grateful. Thanks for sharing this....I very much enjoyed the read (three reads, actually).
Blessings,
Invierno |

this is exquisite! vivid imagery, woven through a
myriad of years, maybe in dreams/daydreaming
is where we meet up with our child self, your last
line is so powerful; so telling, so true.... if
we could go back what would we say to
ourselves? i wonder... if we had to keep up with that
child, well, i certainly could not for she spent
a great deal of time hanging upside down from a
willow tree: ohh to have that energy bottled...
