Fingers bleed a rusty red
Reaching through barbed wire
Trying to grasp life that's fled
And again renew hope's desire
Watching love scampering around
Playing in wanton abandonment
Hear laughter's echo resound
Giving life its nourishment
Behind me grows only darkness
Bolstered by increasing hate
The only escape from this mess
Is to break down its barbed gate
A locked, self-imposed prison
I've confined my heart to
Life free lies beyond my vision
Hidden here as my bitterness grew
Hands shredded by razors sharp
As I struggle to break free
Light fades as days grow dark
Just a small break is all I need

Wow, talk about some imagery! It really just reaches out and grabs ya'.
Sad, though, sounds like hell. :(
Definitely filled with emotion and frightening images. Great poem!
