Ancient One

You earth-born shrapnel; you lifeless fixture,
Biding time while others fade, and by-and-by you gain the world.
Unmoved by man, whose plots wreak war, you ponder what it is to be:
To know the pain of those who come and churn the soil of your home.
What say you now, O Ancient One, who tastes the smoke-filled, choking air,
And bears the brunt of human hate? What news have you for one who seeks
To know the truth and alter fate? An age may pass beneath your gaze,
But still you stand, a soulless mass, forever-pressed beneath the weight
Your timeless frame endures.
