Highland glory

Contributed by spud on Tuesday, 8th April 2014 @ 09:47:42 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

Rebirth stirs with the joys of Spring,
the snow peaks melt and the pinewoods ring
with the flute-like chimes that blackcaps sing
in perfect score, together.

And in the curlew's courtship dance
is swagger, drama, and love - perchance,
while the red kites glide in smug romance
above the flame-tipped heather.

Hush-hush wildcat - ghostly queen
will prime her brood to hunt unseen,
two million years of feral gene;
the Highlands' star survivor.
A golden eagle on a lofty crag,
his plans on wildcat often flag
for he'd sooner blitz an angry stag
than that fearless peerless tiger.

Sacred and enchanting - the faeries' shrine,
the rowan tree budding where the blue hare dine,
nurturing its berries for jelly berry wine;
and magic's in temptation.

Shimmering on the Loch, a warm soft breeze;
plant-hopping butterflies, games of flirt and tease;
carpets of thistleflowers, eager bumble-bees;
and everywhere, creation.

I loved taking this scenic route through Tommy's Highland glory. How about that rhyme scheme too. Simply put: Sensational!

Thank you,

Tim

You've done Scotland proud. What a great poem. I'm almost trying to sing it in a Scotttish accent.
' that fearless peerless tiger' will forever accompany thoughts of a wildcat.
