Someone give me a chance!
I'm such a kind, loving and caring guy,
That everyone seems to look right by.
Such a loyal and trustworthy friend I could be,
If only someone would take a chance on me.
Try and get to know the real me!
Ask me a question! What are your hobbies? Mild or spicy?
I will answer and ask back, I'm really not that scary!
I do like to talk but can never find the words to say,
So you may need to speak first and lead the way.
I'm in here.. help!
I'm hidden behind that sad & lonely depressed kid,
That's trying to protect me from getting hurt again like I did.
The bullied kid whose heart was tortured every day,
"You have big ears and a big nose".. "you're awkward go away."
The kid who was told he was "ugly and annoying",
"You look creepy and weird".. "you're too quiet and boring."
Give me a chance!
Behind that unapproachable and depressing look that you see,
Is a fun loving guy waiting for someone to bring the happiness out of me.
All I ask is that you get to know the real me inside,
Instead of judging by what you see on the outside.

My eyes began to tear up reading this. I have been feeling very similar. However, in my world one of the worst bullies I have is myself. I am glad you at least see/saw your own worth. I hope since this poem is from your past, you have been able to let that fun loving person take the lead. Mine is still buried deep.

You speak for so many! Shut out by those we want to belong with! How many foolish years trying to be what I was not! My favorite line is as "waiting for someone to bring the happiness out of me" !
Thank you for sharing this. You remind us that we have to make our own happiness, and we are wonderful, funny, and unique just as we are!
