A Peaceful Place

Contributed by Livingawkwardly on Saturday, 22nd March 2014 @ 10:48:22 PM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

Screaming and yelling around the house

My mother,

My father,

My sister,

All has become to much

I need a peaceful place to sit

The boat landing

Just across the street

Where The water is so calm

And The trees are so still,

A place where I can sit

On an old wooden bench

I admire the loon floating on the lake

It sees me sitting here

And I feel as though it understands

The deer drinking water not far away

Minding its own business and letting me mind mine

I am finally starting to feel at peace

I look around

I feel the quiet

No children crying

No mothers sighing

All is calm to me

I feel as though no one else matters

A strong gust of wind blows

Rustling the trees

a boat speeds by

Breaking the calmness on the water

My cell phone is ringing

Disturbing the peace

I realize that nothing can be peaceful forever

Something will break the spell

But it is the short moments of tranquility

That keeps us all sane

So I put a smile on my face

And head on home

Indeed, 'the short moments of tranquillity that keep us sane'. Thank goodness for opportunities of respite and places of stillness, even temporary, and poetry like yours to remind us.
