Purposeful in absence

It's not the words
That tumble from your ready tongue that speak
But those that I notice are missing.
Mindfully missing?
Purposeful in absence.
It’s not verbosity that alights in fields of comprehension but
The hands that convey heart’s truth.
It’s not expression that washes over my understanding
But the hidden frown or the fleeting smile that shows me the way.
In the folding of your arms you seal your own protection,
And in your sideways glance when faced with decision.
You Spout habitual words!
It’s never been about what you say
It’s about opening my eyes
To what is missing.

How very true! We take our cues from everything but the words! Speaking or silent..we cannot help but communicate! My favorite line is "Purposeful in absence"..that opens a world of doors and sets the stage for your conclusion…listen to what is missing!
Well wrought, well thought, well written; I'm smitten!
Thank you for sharing such an entertaining bit of knowledge!

I believe I may have been guilty of purposeful in absence a time or eighteen and vice versa (her) :(
Body language, missing words. Communication can be so subtle yet obvious even when not speaking.
Joyful to see a poem from you again.
Thank you. |

Hi Anna,
Nice to see you back.
''Silence is more eloquent than words.''
Coined by someone who's name I cannot recall.
Much truth in it though, as there is in your poem.
Enjoyed.
